Rehab , the good, the bad, the ugly..

Guys in white coats with clipboards, super bright lights overhead, while you're tied up in a straight jacket, locked in a padded cell all day, only let out at meal times? Lol. The images our 'beast' creates in our mind in order to confuse us to get us to avoid fixing ourselves... hilarious..

Rehab is a million miles away from this, and should be. It should be like going on a health retreat where you take a mini break from life, by getting away from it all to unwind and hit the reset button. Some of us even felt like it was similar to those sort of school/summer camps we used to attend many years ago... The slight difference being the huge emotional experience thrown in.

Make no mistake, It's going to get very tough at times, the emotions and memories you suppressed for many years, suddenly all come flooding back in at once and can be quite overwhelming at times. It is a double edged sword, because with every piece that hurts, comes the realisation that you're only able feel it's pain by having regained the ability to feel emotions, which in turn, expose  us to having to feel everything that we avoided for so long, however good, bad or ugly...

But, it's really fucking worth it. Like, really....

[Founder's Personal Comment]

The mental reset i went through while going through rehab was beyond anything i ever expected, or could have even imagined, prior to attending. I assumed it was going to be a dark, hard, horrible punishing process of some sort, yet nothing could have been further from the truth. It brought light and colour back into my life, the ability to see and recognise that good still existed, and ultimately, it brought the real 'ME' back. This happened due to the presence of the people who were in there with me, each of whom was going through their own shitstorm, and yet, as a group, it turned out that it was EXACTLY what each of us needed. Doctors, Therapists, Counsellors, Psychologists, Consultants help, but they don't heal you...   Fellow Addicts do.

I owe them my life, and I will cherish them till the day i die.

you know who you are... much love. xx

Do I really need Rehab?

Some people have successfully overcome their addiction without attending a residential Rehab programme. Various methods exist, like joining a support group like NA, AA, CA etc.,  attending an outpatient rehab programme, having sessions with a therapist/ counsellor regularly  and several others, all of which offer support in one way or another. While they all operate in good faith, and the people who represent them do their utmost to help others, Let's call a spade a spade. Any one of these methods on its own  is extremely unlikely to provide any real benefit in the short term.

Utilising several of the above methods together, could possibly create a combination that would work (and has) for some people, though this will almost always involve a period of trial and error until the components from each of them that resonate with you are identified, allowing you to create the right system for you. While time is not on your side, you have to understand that throughout the entire process, there is a force residing within you whose only objective is to try and make you fail at every opportunity.. It's possible, yes... Do-able, yes.. And you will learn that there is documented proof that there are many people who have succeeded going down this route... However, what you won't find out, is any real information as to what the success vs failure percentage is.

While it is a method that can , and has, worked for several, the risks associated with this system have derailed substantially more people than those who succeeded. Trying to establish this method, while still living in the same environment you became an addict in, with a subconscious mind that is determined to make you fail, makes success an incredibly hard objective to achieve.

We believe that going to rehab is the best option because it gets you out of the environment that had become toxic to you, instantly provides all the information you will need on hand, requiring no effort to search for it, compressing and organising your experience into one intense experience,  all while being monitored by trained professionals who are there to help guide and advise you.

However, the biggest benefit, whose value you will not be able to truly appreciate till much later, is having a group of peers around you who are having the same human experience as you, yet with completely different background stories. Its from hearing the stories from these peers, that from within each, tiny nuggets of information stand out and make sense to you,  which eventually merge together to create 'your method'.

Nobody else's will ever work for you, you have to find your own.

What am i looking for in Rehab?

Your Rehab Centre

Should ideally offer a blend of different therapies, primarily including elements of CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), MET (motivational enhancement therapy)  as well as the standard 12 Step system,  derived from the AA (Alcoholics Anonymous)  and NA (Narcotics Anonymous) methodologies , creating a  personalised programme, customised to  best fulfil your requirements, based on your profile and preferences.

Your Programme

Should include a mix of Group Therapy sessions, One to One sessions with a certified counsellor, self-rebuilding tasks, community driven chores, meditation and mindfulness sessions as well as a healthy physiological programme that includes a balanced diet,   decent exercising facilities and several walking options in a peaceful  environment, allowing you to reconnect once again with reality in nature .

Your Experience

will be everything you allow it to be, and we recommend holding nothing back. Acknowledging and facing past traumas and the damage they caused will be pretty tough at times, but re-discovering the full range of emotions that you packed away long ago, as part of your pain avoidance coping mechanism, will allow you to feel more alive  than you have felt in decades. It's pretty intense, but is bloody awesome.
